Bristle of anteroventral head, located under the eye and above the mouthparts (Eichler et al., 2024), on the gena (Stultz et al., 2006). There are approximately 15 of these on each side (Eichler et al., 2024).

Previously unclear whether this included subvibrissal bristles - as seems to be the case in Eichler et al. (2024), Cladera and Bryant (1985) - FBrf0042392 and Atkins and Mardon (2009) - FBrf0208548 or just the larger anterior bristles - as seems to be the case in http://www.ento.csiro.au/biology/drosophila/melanogaster.html?vibrissa and in other species (e.g. PMID:34641736). This term is now explicitly the broader alternative.
