    "note": "These API tokens are public by design and are not secrets. Each authenticates as CATMAID's AnonymousUser, whose only permission is can_browse, so a token grants exactly the read access these servers already offer to everyone. Write requests made with them are refused by the server.",
    "why_a_token_is_needed": "Most CATMAID query endpoints are POST, and POST is CSRF-checked. Server-side clients can satisfy that check by fetching a page and replaying the cookie, but code running in a browser can neither read another origin's cookie nor set a Referer header. Token authentication bypasses CSRF and is the only route available to a browser-based client.",
